| Tapirs are large brown or black mammals. Their throat
and chest are often a lighter color. They can be from 5 1/2 to 6 1/2
feet in length. |
| Tapirs are herbivores and eat leaves, twigs, grass,
fruit and some seeds. |
| They live in wet forest areas at all elevations and
can be active both day and night. |
