Nine-banded Armadillo
The type of armadillo found at El Pilar is called the
Nine-banded Armadillo. It has a gray to yellowish bony plates on its
body. They are about 22 inches long plus a long tail.
The Nine-banded Armadillo will eat many kinds of insects,
small vertebrates and some plant parts.
They are nocturnal and generally live in forests, scrub
areas, thickets and grasslands.
