The Lakin Trail snakes down the hill, through exposed stones and
occasional squared bedrock outcroppings. These are visible signs of
the extensive quarrying activity that occurred all over the hill slopes.
The Maya cut the large limestone blocks needed for different building
projects here and at similar quarries on other nearby hills and ridges.
Some of these ancient quarries have been reopened and utilized in
the consolidation project at the site. |
