Entering the path, you walk down a hill and into a large clearing. On the hill to your right you see a Maya thatched house. You are welcome to explore this dwelling.
Carmen and Betty Cruz built this house to use seasonally while tending crops. The house is constructed as most ancient Maya dwellings were built. The technique of building with pole, thatch, waddle sticks, and mud daub relies on resources from the immediate surroundings and is adapted to the Maya forest. This house is maintained and used for short-term research at the site. There also many fruit trees growing here, much as the ancient Maya would have managed the surrounding forest. Today you can identify many of the plants that were once part of this home: custard apple, avocado, allspice, coconut, and even ginger. Cruz House
