Appendix VI: History of Reserve Development

The development of El Pilar and the cross-border aspect is unique in the Maya forest and in Central America. El Pilar is now two contiguous areas protecting one cultural resource in two countries. There has been a process that has focused on community and management. The outline of the major events over the past ten years is presented in the following table [PDF] and HTML. The research process enveloped the management developments with the community participation at each step.
